Two of these were painted , with the rampart lions facing opposite directions. This customization was commissioned as one of the identical Long twins is right handed; the other left handed.
This "Long" Coat of Arms is displayed as the centerpiece in the owner's collection of antique weaponry. This particular painting was done in oil, though I typically paint with acrylics.

Atop the Murphy Coat of Arms is a crown "crest". As different as the sheilds are, so are the crests a rampart lion, an Irish wolf hound, a crown , Prince of Wales Feathers and a stag.
Below these on the helm's collar, I've added Austrian crystals to give it an overall "knightly" effect, as only aristocrats could afford jewelry.

The "Graves" family crest I felt needed a gilt finish so I added true gold leaf to give it its regal effect. |

The "Rutland" family crest, my own, I transposed the three Fleur-de-Lis back into their original lilies.
I chose to customize our family's coat of arms by transposing the "fleur-de-lis" (literally French for Flower of the Lily) into day lilies to represent my mother, an avid gardener who grew them all my life. That personalization makes me smile.

I've included this "Kelly" crest to let you realize that surnames may BE the same, but they are NOT the same. If you can absolutely trace your ancestry to one particular knight awarded this honor, I will gladly paint it for you.
If you are unsure of your heritage, I can research the area in which your ancestors hailed to get a close, if not solid, depiction of your true family's crest. |
